GEORGE’S PLATFORM

PROVIDE SUPPORT FOR SMALL BUSINESSES

Let’s face it: Small businesses are the backbone and the beating heart of the local economy. They need our help right now. To ensure economic revival after Covid, we will cut the red tape that stifles small business growth and prevents recovery.

We believe that local business owners will benefit from soft loans with low interest rates and may be eligible for forgivable options. It is absolutely crucial that the next elected Mayor of New York City commits to fighting for small businesses and creates new opportunities for them to thrive in a post-Covid world. The Mayor should join efforts with Council members to appropriate the funds necessary to help local business in communities hit hard by the pandemic.

FIGHT CRIME AND ENSURE PUBLIC SAFETY

When it comes to fighting crime, the stakes have never been higher. Post-pandemic prosperity means safety; it means no one should be afraid to walk down the street and no one should be terrified of being molested, harassed or assaulted. We pledge to implement a much-needed Gun Buyback Program to get illegal guns off our streets and protect our residents. In addition, we are committed to building and restoring trust between NYPD and local communities. It is absolutely crucial to retrain police officers and give them the tools, training and support they need to safeguard our communities and protect our people, while abstaining from using unnecessary force and preventing potential tragedies. Another way to protect our citizens is to create diversion programs for people with mental health issues. Homeless people deserve help and will be screened for affordable housing; those with substance abuse and mental health issues will get medical attention as opposed to getting locked up in jails and subjected to inhumane treatment. These programs are long overdue, and we must make these changes as soon as possible. Community policing will be re-visited.

BUILD A NEW GENERATION OF QUEENS YOUNG LEADERS

We all know that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow. Our next generation should be educated, encouraged and inspired to do great things. Therefore, we need to put more emphasis on building self-reliance and self-confidence. It is time our school curriculum focuses on fostering good citizenship, patriotism and leadership. In addition, young Queens residents will get college credit for teaching technology to senior citizens.

EDUCATION IN POST-COVID NYC

Remote learning can never replace in-person learning and as we navigate this pandemic, students should return safely to schools. We should advocate curriculum that emphasizes technical and vocational training, fund our libraries adequately and negotiate increased funding for afterschool programs.

FUND SENIOR CENTERS

We will implement monthly wellness and health visits. Seniors will have their prescriptions delivered to their homes and centers where they reside. Our Queens youth will earn school credit for helping seniors and teaching them technology. In addition, we will encourage seniors to get vaccinated before venturing to casinos, Queens museums, or theaters.

INVESTING IN SANITATION

Let’s face it: Our residents deserve to live in a clean, safe and well-maintained environment. Proper sanitation is of critical importance and it’s high time we increase our efforts to improve health and safety standards. Clean neighborhoods are healthy neighborhoods.

LET’S GO!
TOGETHER

DEAR FRIENDS

I am uniquely positioned to serve the 21st district based on my years of experience serving our community, as a Liaison to City Council and Chair of the Consumer Affairs Committee for Community Board 4 representing Corona. As a Community Organizer, I fought for rights of residents while standing up for social justice and LGBTQ rights.

As an immigrant who has resided in Corona, Queens for 34 years, I’m no stranger to the struggles of many struggling to make it, grinding daily to put food on the table for their family. From civil rights to immigrant rights, I will be your voice in the City Council.

Every dollar you donate helps. Our progressive grassroots campaign can only win with support and financial donations from fellow residents like you.

I will be calling to ask for your help, but I will be asking for things more important than money. I need your energy, your time, your ideas and, yes, your votes.

I’m counting on you to help me make your voice heard.

GEORGE ONUORAH

A PILLAR OF QUIET STRENGTH
(OF AND FOR THE PEOPLE).

George Onuorah is a man of quiet strength and power whose decades-long career as a humble public servant has galvanized his political ambitions.

His physical stature projects the upright man that he is. His indomitable passion for service to his community focuses on being a voice for people who have been marginalized by economic and racial inequities. His journey to Now is a longitudinal path – from that of a youth leader in his native Nigeria, to his candidacy for New York City Council. He aspires to represent District 21 in Queens – one of the most ethnically diverse communities in the United States.

Onuorah’s early foundation, rooted in faith and family, instilled in him high moral values of respect and responsibility. Activities in the Church, Boy Scouts and other community organizations were instrumental in arousing Doctor George’s zeal for serving humanity. In high school, he led the Debating Society and was appointed Senior Prefect, overseeing student affairs.

Onuorah was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from CICA University and Seminary for his considerable body of work in the areas of Philanthropy and Political Activism. He is now affectionately referred to by many as “Doctor George.”

Doctor George currently serves as Chief Executive Officer of the Foundation for Sustainable Community Development Initiative, a charitable organization that provides and mobilizes resources to the marginalized and disadvantaged in various parts of the world. Foundation for Sustainable Community Development Initiative recently raised funds to honor frontline workers at Elmhurst Hospital and Harlem Hospital, two of New York’s hospitals at the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic. The organization also raised funds to provide medical care, cash and personal protective equipment (PPE) to various communities in District 21.

Onuorah also served as Director of Media for When In Need Foundation, a charitable humanitarian organization that provides food, shelter and medical care to thousands of displaced and underprivileged people in remote areas of the world.

Onuorah co-founded Our World Media, a print and digital magazine of editorial and political commentaries, articles, essays and interviews. His first book, The Political Diary of a Rising Son,  in which he writes about politics from an immigrant standpoint, was published in 2010.

Doctor George has received numerous accolades, awards and citations during his esteemed career. He has been recognized by the New York State Senate and Assembly, and the United States Congress. He was chosen as “Star of Queens” by the Queens Courier Newspapers in New York City. In 2016, he was honored as a distinguished “King of Queens.”

Onuorah’s exemplary career of service is an inspiration to many who aspire to break free of the limitation of current circumstances. Those external conditions do not define a person. The greatness is within and, the vision one holds for one’s self and the world. He has lived true to his inspiration: Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.”

George Onuorah continues to work tirelessly to empower and inspire communities around the world and is committed to be a voice of the people he lives among. He is a resident of LeFrak City, Queens. He has two beautiful daughters, Nneka (32) and Nakia (22), and is deeply passionate about gender equality and youth empowerment.
